What does scalability mean to you?

We are living in unprecedented times where furlough and lay-offs are prevalent, and the burden of empty roles and responsibilities have fallen to those around us. The age-old problem of “I am doing a 5-person job” is growing exponentially as leadership works to resolve projected revenue forecasts.

It’s tough to think of developing scalability with the unknowns. Often, we think of headcount growth or new offices when we think about scaling. How about we shift how we define scalability and look at “the capability to cope and perform well under an increased or expanding workload.” This allows us to focus on the current landscape and make improvements to organizational and individual performance.

Hopefully, we have had moments to reflect on our personal lives whether it’s calling ‘home’ more often or spending your former commute time with your kids at the breakfast table. We find ourselves approaching a time to move reflection into a proactive response.

Take a moment to look at the gaps, what’s working and what isn't, the losses and the wins. Let's do better by creating better systems, realign value statements with practicality, improve best practices with training and maybe look at improving scalability for those around us.
